At the start of the government meeting on Wednesday, caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov said that an intimidation operation had been launched against Interior Minister Emil Dechev.

“An intimidation operation has been launched against the Interior Minister. When a minister begins to rid the Interior Ministry of dependencies, the reaction is swift. Scriptwriters appear. Signals appear. Prosecutors appear. This will not stop us,” Gurov said, as quoted in a cabinet press release. Dechev did not attend the meeting.

Gurov was adamant that the caretaker government would not bend under pressure. “There will be no turning back,” Gurov said, adding: “Our mandate does not stem from dependencies, it stems from the need for the state to take a breath, restore the rules, and regain lost trust.”

Gurov said that later in the day all additional materials related to the dismissal of the Interior Ministry’s Secretary General would be submitted to President Iliana Iotova.

The Prime Minister also addressed Finance Minister Georgi Klisurski, saying he expected not only an extension of the 2025 state budget to be presented but also a review of existing public procurement contracts. He demanded clarification as to whether it was true that funds intended for children with cancer were being used to pay for tests costing 30 euros, while the same tests cost 3 euros in pharmacies. “If this is true, we will have yet another explanation for why we have been under attack since day one,” Gurov said.
