Bulgaria's outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and outgoing Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev congratulated Nickolay Mladenov on his election as High Representative for Gaza, the Government Information Service reported Thursday. The three spoke in Davos before the establishment of the US President's Board of Peace.

Zhelyazkov described Mladenov's election as a huge recognition of his long-standing work to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East. "I believe that Nickolay will spare no energy or effort in carrying out this highly responsible mission, which also enjoys the support of US President Donald Trump," the outgoing Prime Minister said.

Georgiev noted that Mladenov's appointment as High Representative is also recognition of Bulgaria's potential contribution to the Middle East peace process. "Bulgaria's moderate and balanced foreign policy position has always allowed us to play a constructive role in finding workable solutions for peace and stability in a region that is close to Bulgaria and whose stability is crucial for preventing negative consequences for the security of our region and Europe as a whole, including new waves of migration," added the outgoing Foreign Minister.

During the conversation, Mladenov assured Prime Minister Zhelyazkov that the Board of Peace initiative is in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2803 of 2025, which outlines a plan for governance, security, and reconstruction of Gaza after the conflict, as well as with President Trump's 20-point Gaza peace plan. Mladenov emphasized that, according to the Board's charter, the financial contribution of participating countries is voluntary and no country is financially obligated.
