site.bta Ombudsman, National Social Security Institute Start “Pensions in Euro” Awareness Campaign

Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva and the Governor of the National Social Security Institute (NSSI), Vesela Karaivanova, discussed the preparation and implementation of a joint awareness campaign aimed at elderly people related to the introduction of the euro on January 1, 2025, Delcheva’s press office reported here on Thursday.
The initiative, organized under the slogan “Pensions in Euro”, will be launched on September 19 in the town of Dupnitsa (West Bulgaria) and will primarily cover small settlements across the country. The main goal is to inform and advise pensioners on all issues related to the upcoming currency change — from the recalculation of pensions in euros to recognizing counterfeit banknotes and avoiding falling victim to fraud.
During these meetings, brochures with samples of euro banknotes and coins will be distributed so that elderly people can familiarise themselves with the new currency.
Reports received at the Ombudsman’s office show that the currency conversion process is causing concern among a considerable number of senior citizens.
The Ombudsman and Vesela Karaivanova emphasised the importance of informing elderly people of the euro’s effect on their income. “This is not only an economic but also a social program that requires support and trust”, commented Velislava Delcheva.
Detailed information in which municipalities and on which dates the campaign will continue will be published on the Ombudsman’s website and promoted through local authorities and the media.
