Household deposits in the Bulgarian banking system increased by 11.2% year-on-year to BGN 93.149 billion at the end of the first half of 2025, according to data from the Bulgarian National Bank. The growth rate slowed down compared to the previous month of May, when the annual increase reached 11.5%.

The amount of deposits has increased by approximately BGN 9.4 billion over the last 12 months. By comparison, at the end of June 2024, household deposits amounted to BGN 83.781 billion.

Household deposits in Bulgaria accounted for 42.4% of the country's projected gross domestic product.

Non-financial business deposits amounted to BGN 46.939 billion (21.4% of GDP) at the end of June 2025. Compared to the same month in 2024, they increased by 6.1% (6.7% annual increase in May 2025).

Deposits of financial enterprises increased by 30.5% year-on-year in June 2025 (22.7% year-on-year increase in May 2025) and reached BGN 4.456 billion (2% of GDP) at the end of the month.

Overall, at the end of June 2025, deposits in the non-governmental sector amounted to BGN 144.544 billion (65.8% of GDP), with an annual increase of 10% (10.2% year-on-year increase in May 2025).

In the latest edition of its macroeconomic forecast, the Bulgarian National Bank noted that the annual growth of non-government sector deposits is expected to accelerate to 15.7% at the end of 2025, mainly as a result of the expected more intensive deposit of free cash in the banking system in the period before Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone for subsequent conversion into euro.
