The GERB-UDF coalition submitted documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Wednesday to register for participation in the snap parliamentary elections scheduled for April 19.
"We are entering this latest campaign in the spiral of elections we have been experiencing in recent years with calmness and confidence," former prime minister and current MP Rosen Zhelyazkov said. He filed the registration documents together with MPs Delyan Dobrev and Rumen Hristov (leader of the Union of Democratic Forces, UDF), as well as GERB’s administrative secretary Tsvetomir Paunov.
"With calmness, because we have achieved a great deal in all the formats in which we have governed, and with confidence, because 2025 was an extremely successful year for the Bulgarian economy, public finances and all the priorities that were set and implemented as outlined back in January last year," Zhelyazkov added.
Quoting ancient Roman consuls, he said: "I have done what I could; whoever can, should do more." He stressed that during the campaign the coalition would not only highlight its achievements but also outline future development plans for Bulgaria.
"What has been achieved must be built upon – in terms of trust from international institutions, opportunities for the Bulgarian economy, increased competitiveness, and our commitments to the partnerships and alliances in which we participate," Zhelyazkov said.
He noted that GERB–SDS will once again run in this format and will strive for the best possible result. "We submitted 9,999 signatures – a small part of the 43,000 we have collected so far, but that is all Mr Dobrev and I could carry," he added.
