Annual inflation in Bulgaria in April 2025 stood at 2.8% (measured by the harmonized index of consumer prices), down from 4% in March 2025. Monthly inflation in the country in April 2025 was minus 1.2%, the Statistical Office of the European Commission reported on Monday.

On Sunday, Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said in a televised interview that, according to the latest National Statistical Institute data, Bulgaria has met the inflation criterion for euro area membership. "Let's wait for the Eurostat data, which will come out tomorrow," she added, expressing the hope that the country will join the euro area on January 1, 2026.

Across the European Union, annual inflation slowed to 2.4% in April 2025 compared to 2.5% in March 2025, Eurostat said. In the euro area, it remained unchanged at 2.2%. Monthly inflation was 0.5% in the EU and 0.6% in the euro area.

The EU’s lowest annual inflation in April 2025 was reported in France (0.9%), Cyprus (1.4%) and Denmark (1.5%), and the highest, in Romania (4.9%), Estonia (4.4%) and Hungary (4.2%).
