The annual Eastern Imperial Eagle Festival will take place once again in the town of Topolovgrad on October 18. It is organized by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB) and the Municipality of Topolovgrad.

The event brings together nature lovers, farmers, culinary enthusiasts, and folklore groups to celebrate the nature and culture of the Sakar region. The Eastern Imperial Eagle, one of the rarest birds in Europe, is a symbol of the region and the focus of long-standing conservation efforts by BSPB and local communities.

The programme includes a farmers’ market, culinary tastings, and traditional folk performances. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn more about the protection of the eagle and its habitats.

The festival is supported by the “Green Belt of Southeastern Bulgaria” project, funded by the Endangered Landscapes Programme (ELSP), part of the Cambridge Conservation Initiative— a partnership between the University of Cambridge and leading international biodiversity organizations. The university and ELSP are supported by Arcadia, a charitable fund of Peter Baldwin and Lisbet Rausing.
