The Bulgarian Sunday School at the Bulgarian Embassy in Bucharest held a Christmas celebration in the building of the diplomatic mission in the Romanian capital. The venue turned out to be too small to accommodate the children and their parents.
“Our children are heroes, because in addition to their regular schooling in Bucharest, they come here with great enthusiasm to the Bulgarian Sunday School and attend not only the classes in their curriculum, but also the many extracurricular activities that have been organized in recent years,” said Bulgarian Ambassador Radko Vlaykov.
The diplomat described the outgoing year 2025 as a good and successful one.
“I cannot help but share one fact, because it will be important for a better life and for Bulgaria’s prosperity. This year we took the final step in our full integration into the European Union – in two weeks we are eagerly expecting to become part of the eurozone and to use our common European currency, the euro. In a few days I am inviting all ambassadors, accredited here in Romania, who are responsible for Bulgaria. We have specially arranged for the first Bulgarian euros to be brought from Ruse,” Ambassador Vlaykov added.
He wished everyone health and good luck in the coming year and officially opened the celebration.
The programme included a colourful selection of Christmas songs. Younger children also recited poems and there were traditional Christmas carolers.
Students Andrey Velikov and Damyana Velikova received certificates for their excellent performance in the competition organized by the Association of Bulgarian Schools Abroad, “My Bulgarian Christmas Card”.
Santa Claus handed gifts to all the children, provided by the Bulgarian-Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Ruse.
The celebration continued in one of the school’s classrooms, where Santa Claus kept delighting the children with games.
There were also games around the Christmas tree in the courtyard of the Bulgarian embassy in Bucharest.
All guests at the celebration drew festive fortune slips. The event was also attended by Father Kiril Sinev, the representative of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in Romania.
