Bulgaria posted the largest year-on-year decline in industrial production in the European Union for a fifth consecutive month, according to preliminary Eurostat data released on Monday.

In October 2025, Bulgaria’s industrial production fell by 7.6% compared with October 2024, deepening from a 5.7% annual decline recorded in September.

At EU level, industrial production rose by 1.9% year on year in October, while the euro area reported a 2% increase.

The highest annual growth rates were registered in Ireland and Latvia (both up 8.7%), followed by Greece (6.9%) and Sweden (5.7%). After Bulgaria, the steepest annual declines were recorded in Slovakia (-3.7%) and Hungary (-2.6%).

In the euro area, annual growth was recorded across all main industrial groupings, with the strongest increases in energy (4.5%) and non-durable consumer goods (4.9%). A similar trend was observed in the EU, where non-durable consumer goods rose by 4.4% and energy by 3.4%.

On a monthly basis, industrial production in October increased by 0.3% in the EU and by 0.8% in the euro area compared with September.

The largest monthly increases were reported in Ireland (4%), Luxembourg (3.6%) and Croatia (3.1%), while the sharpest declines were registered in Sweden (-6.5%), Belgium (-3.4%) and Denmark (-3.2%).
