Outgoing Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev took part in this year's final regular meeting of the European Union's Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels on Monday, Georgiev's Ministry reported.
Regarding EU-China relations, Minister Georgiev stated that Bulgaria supports maintaining an active and constructive dialogue with China on all issues of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of pragmatic engagement with the People’s Republic of China.
The Council also discussed the situation in Ukraine, focusing on the implementation of joint security and defence commitments between the EU and Ukraine. In his statement, Minister Georgiev stressed that Ukraine alone has the right to make decisions on sensitive issues, including territorial ones. He added that Bulgaria welcomed the adoption of the so-called "small" sanctions package against Russia's "shadow fleet", which directly supports the Russian military machine. The important role of the Black Sea for Ukraine's post-war recovery was also highlighted in this context. "Alongside the efforts within the EU, it is crucial to intensify engagement with key international partners to secure sustainable and adequate funding for Ukraine," said Minister Georgiev.
