The Labour and Social Policy Ministry, through the Social Assistance Agency, has granted one-off financial aid for the start of the school year to cover the costs for books, stationery, and clothing to nearly 145,000 children to date, the press centre of the ministry announced on Monday.
The families of more than half of the students have already received the first payment of BGN 150. The rest will receive the funds in the coming weeks. The second half of the total amount of BGN 300 will be paid at the beginning of the second term, provided that the child attends school regularly.
The aid is granted to all children in the first, second, third, fourth, and eighth grades of state, municipal, and private schools, regardless of the family’s income. A total of about 250,000 children are expected to receive support.
The submission of documents to the Social Assistance Directorates throughout the country continues until October 15.
