Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) Krum Zarkov Saturday said that Bulgarian society "lives with a sense of having no alternative." He addressed a national conference of Bulgarian Social Democracy – EuroLeft, a partner in the BSP–United Left coalition. "Bulgarian society lives with a sense of having no alternative, convinced that things cannot be any different," Zarkov said.

In Zarkov's words, society is convinced that these are natural processes that suppress it and undermine quality of life. Bulgarian society finds it perfectly normal that it is easier to enroll in a Faculty of Law than to secure a place in a nursery in Sofia — as if this were the result of climate problems. Someone has to tell people that this is the result of political decisions and outline the political solutions that can change it, Zarkov added.

"I expect your proposals regarding the economic platform. There is much work ahead, and as BSP leader I want to tell you that I am confident this work can be successfully accomplished only if we do it together," Zarkov said. "We must open our eyes to other organizations, other authorities, and other people — on the basis of clear principles that must guide our relations from now on: equality, mutual respect, and tolerance. On that basis, we can overcome the mistakes we have made toward one another over the years and move forward," Zarkov added.
