Caretaker Justice Minister Yankulov on Thursday sent an official address to the General Assembly of Attorneys in Bulgaria and said he believes in open partnership between public institutions and the Bulgarian Bar, because justice reform cannot just be an administrative act.

At present, the legal profession serves as an active safeguard, a source of expertise, and a voice for citizens within the justice system. Amid rapid social change and technological transformation, this role is becoming even more important, both in protecting rights and in modernizing the legal framework, Yankulov wrote in his address.

Speaking at the conference earlier on Saturday, Sofia City Court Chair Rusi Aleksiev said the rule of law could be strengthened and trust in the legal profession increased only through mutual respect, dialogue and standing by principles. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev thanked Bulgarian attorneys for their support and defence of journalists and the media.
