Bulgaria’s Sts Cyril and Methodius National Library and the National Library of Brazil signed a memorandum of cooperation in Sofia, the Bulgarian library said in a press release on Sunday. The document was signed by Kalina Ivanova, Director of the Sts Cyril and Methodius National Library, and her Brazilian counterpart, Marco Lucchesi.
At the ceremony, Ivanova said: “We reaffirm our commitment to developing cultural exchange through joint projects, travelling exhibitions and, of course, through the exchange of professional expertise between our national libraries, as they are called upon to serve society and preserve the nation’s literary memory.”
Lucchesi said: “With great joy today we are building a historic bridge between Brazil and Bulgaria with the most important key – culture. A key created to open doors, not to close them, in the fundamental dimension of memory – or more precisely, the policies of memory.”
Both directors voiced their gratitude to Paulo Roberto Campos Tarrisse da Fontoura, Brazil’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, and his team.
The event was also attended by the Ambassador of Portugal to Bulgaria, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps and academic circles.
