Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov called for the Government to resign at a protest organised by the party in Sofia on Saturday. "The message is one – resignation. Resignation of this Government, so that we can save Bulgaria, so that we can save the Bulgarian lev," Kostadinov told journalists at the protest in front of the Bulgarian National Bank building.
Vazrazhdane also held protests in Shumen, Pleven, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo and Ruse.
According to him, the eurozone is collapsing. "France, the second-largest economy, is technically bankrupt. Germany is in recession, and Italy is experiencing both stagnation and inflation. The first, second, and third-largest economies in the eurozone are currently collapsing before our eyes. We are boarding the Titanic," he argued.
"For this reason, and because of the huge budget deficit, which currently exceeds BGN 6.5 billion, and because of inflation in the country, because of the enormous corruption and because of the lack of any foreign policy initiative on the part of this Government. There are not one or two reasons for this Government's resignation, there are hundreds," Kostadinov said.
Protesters held up signs reading "Freedom for the lev" and "The imposition of the euro by the mafia will lead to Bulgaria's financial bankruptcy." At the protest, there were stations where signatures were collected in support of the preservation of the Bulgarian lev.
