Velichie Floor Leader Ivelin Mihaylov told reporters here on Thursday that the Environment department at the European Commission (EC) contacted his party to request specific details on all the illegal landfills that Velichie found. The latest no-confidence motion in the government that failed to pass on July 11 was submitted by Velichie over the government’s failure to address what the sponsors called "Bulgaria’s environmental crisis".
Mihaylov said that the EC could not comprehend how there could be so many illegal landfills and was inquiring whether there is a problem with the disposal process. He added: "We saw that they were absolutely shocked by the scale of the ecological disaster and told us to submit all the documents. They gave us forms and will start the necessary procedures."
The MP shared that he is absolutely certain that Bulgaria is heading for early parliamentary elections, as he described the rhetoric in the National Assembly as pre-election and added that a smearing campaign is ongoing. He concluded: "I think in one of the next votes [of no confidence from] Morality, Unity, Honour or Continue the Change - Democratic Bulgaria will topple the government, so we will not get to our vote."
