A book about the Bulgarians in Izvoarele is set to be published in Romanian in February. Its author is Bianca Vasile, who is of Bulgarian origin and one of the founders of the Bulgarian Springs association of the Bulgarian minority in Izvoarele, Bulgarian Springs.

"I am from Izvoarele. I have been living in Bucharest for 15 years. I graduated from the Faculty of Political Science. I am also pursuing a PhD in political science and another focusing on national minorities. At the moment, I work as a journalist," Bianca said during her visit to the BTA Press Club in Bucharest.

Asked what prompted her to collect the memory of the Bulgarians from Izvoarele in a book, she replied: "I think it is a moral duty to do this. I want to leave something for the generations after me. I love Izvoarele. I want, I feel, that Izvoarele should be placed on Romania’s multi-ethnic map. In the age of digitalization, I do not want us to lose everything. This book is a mirror of the past."

Bianca began working on the project three years ago. She received support from the Union of Banat Bulgarians in Romania and from Georgi Nakov, the deputy representing the Bulgarian minority in the Romanian Parliament.

She conducted interviews with local residents of Izvoarele, whom she describes as the most valuable source of information - as well as with ethnographers, professors and museum experts. She also collaborated with the Teleorman County Museum.
