Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a telephone conversation with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, said that Turkiye's support for Syria will increase in a number of areas. Among them, Erdogan highlighted the fight against terrorism, Burhanettin Duran, the Presidency’s Head of Communications, announced on his social media profiles.

"Erdogan emphasized the necessity of clearing Syrian lands of terrorism for both Syria and the entire region," Duran wrote. "Our president stated that Turkiye’s support for Syria will continue to increase in many areas, particularly in the fight against terrorism."

The conversation, during which bilateral relations and the current situation in Syria were discussed, took place after the Damascus administration reached an agreement with the US supported Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Under the agreement, reached on Sunday, the SDF agreed on an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire on all fronts, which came after the advance of government forces into Kurdish-controlled territories in the northeast of the country. During the conversation, Erdogan reiterated Turkiye's support for Syria's territorial integrity, unity, stability, and security.

Following the announcement of the ceasefire and the agreement on the full integration of Syrian Kurds into the Syrian security forces, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement expressing its hope that this would lead to stability and security both in the country and in the entire region.

"We hope it is fully understood that Syria's future lies not in terrorism or division, but in unity and integration," the statement published on the institution's website said.
