A fire broke out on Sunday night at a plastics factory in the northern part of the Greek capital Athens, state television ERT reported. About 40 firefighters with 19 fire trucks are working on site. No injuries have been reported so far.

The wire was reported shortly at 1:00 a.m. (local and Bulgarian time). Due to the presence of flammable materials, the flames spread quickly and the Greek disaster and emergency notification system 112 was activated in the area to protect residents from the smoke. "Stay indoors, close doors and windows. Follow the instructions of the authorities," said the message received by nearby residents.

According to ERT's information, the fire has spread to three other nearby businesses, as well as a neighboring car repair shop. The fight against the consequences of the fire continues.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The owners of the businesses in the area have gathered at the scene, concerned about their property, the report added.
