The nationalist party Vazrazhdane has reiterated its support for US President Donald Trump’s claim over Greenland and challenged the Bulgarian government to clarify its official position on the escalating dispute between the United States and Denmark. In a statement released on Monday, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov said the conflict over Greenland was deepening and had expanded beyond the two countries, with Germany, the UK and "six smaller states" declaring firm support for Denmark and sending symbolic military contingents to Greenland - causing what Kostadinov calls "a serious internal crisis within NATO".
Vazrazhdane has already stated their position on January 11.
According to him, the dispute could lead to the Alliance’s collapse, noting Denmark’s warning that it would leave NATO if the US were to attack Greenland. He described the developments as evidence of the disintegration of what he called the “global neoliberal order.”
Kostadinov reaffirmed Vazrazhdane’s long-standing position of backing US claims to Greenland and calling for Bulgaria to withdraw from NATO. He argued that the Alliance does not exist to defend its members "but serves as a tool for aggressive policies against Russia". In his view, amid what he described as improving US-Russian relations, NATO had become an anachronism of the Cold War era.
He criticized the Bulgarian government for having no position on the US-Denmark dispute over Greenland and warned that Bulgaria cannot remain neutral due to its NATO obligations under Article 5, but could be forced to take sides if the attacker is another NATO ally. Kostadinov described the situation as a historic moment comparable to the late 1980s collapse of the global communist system.
