site.btaRomania Starts Study for Bucharest–Giurgiu High-Speed Road to Bulgaria
Romania’s National Road Investment Company began a feasibility study for the Bucharest-Giurgiu high-speed road on Monday.
The route is set to reach the Bulgarian border near Ruse and would be the first major high-speed motorway to directly link Romania and Bulgaria.
The contract was signed at the end of 2025 with an association of engineering firms from Romania and Turkiye. It is financed with money from European funds and is worth RON 34 million, or a little over EUR 6.5 million.
The study results are expected within 16 months. The analysis will cover the road’s structural design and its connections to other investment projects, including the planned new bridge over the Danube at the Giurgiu-Ruse border crossing.
The first high-speed road connection between Romania and Bulgaria is becoming strategic and will support modern road transport and connectivity between the two countries, the National Road Investment Company said.
