By the end of 2025, the total assets of pension funds in the second and third pillars exceeded BGN 31.2 billion (nearly EUR 16 billion), according to preliminary data from pension insurance companies, the Bulgarian Association of Supplementary Pension Security Companies (BASPSC) said.
Over the past three years alone, 2023, 2024, and 2025, the accumulated investment return across all pension funds has exceeded BGN 5.5 billion (more than EUR 2.8 billion).
In 2025, universal pension funds achieved an average annual return of 6.26%, compared to 5.22% in 2024 and 8.15% in 2023.
Voluntary pension funds recorded even higher returns - an average of 8.07% in 2025, compared with 6.41% in 2024 and 7.87% in 2023.
The data show that pension funds continue to create real long-term value for insured individuals, despite the dynamic economic and market environment, BASPSC noted.
