European Parliament President Roberta Metsola highlighted Bulgaria’s adoption of the single European currency on January 1 and welcomed the country to the eurozone in her speech at the opening of the European Parliament session in Strasbourg on Monday.

“On January 1, Bulgaria adopted the euro. This is a proud moment for Bulgaria and for Europe. The euro is already making daily life easier and opening new opportunities for people and businesses,” Metsola said.

She added that the Parliament warmly welcomes Bulgaria to the euro family and concluded in Bulgarian: “Congratulations and welcome.”
