The Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of Saint Euthymius the Great. On this date, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church also honours the memory of Partiarch Euthymius of Turnovo, the last church leader of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1185-1396) who was canonized as a saint. In the absence of King Ivan Shishman, Euthymius led the defence of the capital Turnovo during the siege of the city by Sultan Bayazid I in 1393.

On this date in Bulgarian history:

1912: The first Bulgarian airplane, "Prince Boris of Turnovo," flies near St Petersburg, Russia.

1965: The first issue of "The World in Photos and Cartoons" is published by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Renamed "Paraleli" on January 1, 1970. Published until 2010.
