A total of 13,435 items, most of them textiles with logos of protected trademarks, were detained by customs officers at the border crossing point Kapitan Andreevo, the regional press centre of the Customs Agency in Svilengrad reported. The goods, which were seized on suspicion of infringing intellectual property rights, were found during two separate inspections of trucks entering the country from Turkiye.

In one of the cases, on May 15, the goods were found in a lorry with a foreign registration, which was transporting groupage goods from Turkiye via Bulgaria to Ukraine. The truck was selected for a thorough customs inspection, during which 10,078 textiles were found among the declared goods - most of them T-shirts, tracksuits and trousers, shirts and trousers with the markings of world-famous brands. A further 186 pairs of sports shoes and slippers and 32 handbags and purses bearing the symbols of well-known brands were found.

During another inspection of a tractor-trailer from Turkiye to Ukraine, the customs officers found among the declared goods a total of 3,139 items, including 1,657 textile products - t-shirts, blouses, shorts, men's underwear, socks, hats, 158 pairs of slippers and 14 ladies' bags. Among the items found were 1,310 sunglasses. All the goods were branded with figurative and word images of famous brands.

The goods have been seized under the European regulation on the protection of intellectual property. The holders of the respective trademarks will be informed about the cases.
