Caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev had a telephone call with Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Dimitar Kovachevski, the Government Information Service said. The two discussed the need of a peaceful and smooth commemoration of the upcoming 151st birth anniversary of the revolutionary Gotse Delchev.

In this regard, caretaker Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev and National Security Agency Chairman Plamen Tonchev will have a work meeting with their counterparts in Skopje on January 30 to specify joint actions for ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for the commemoration on February 4.

Donev and Kovachevski also discussed the benefits of a deeper interaction between the two countries in the field of security and especially in cases of criminal acts or threats against citizens of the Republic of North Macedonia with Bulgarian identity.

Donev reiterated Bulgarian expectation that the Republic of North Macedonia will not only take all actions necessary to stop hate speech and hate crimes, but also to respect the rights of the Macedonian Bulgarians.

At a news briefing earlier on Friday, caretaker Foreign Minister Nikolay Milkov also assured that Bulgaria will take all necessary measures. He said that Bulgaria will request a note from the Republic of North Macedonia, which will ensure travelers' access to the country. He also ascertained that representatives of the Bulgarian Embassy will participate in the commemoration.
