All euro area countries Thursday supported unanimously Bulgaria's eurozone membership as of January 1, 2026, Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova told journalists in Luxembourg, where she participated in an Eurogroup meeting on Thursday. The exchange rate of the lev against the euro was also discussed and remains as it is now. The decision will be taken officially on July 8, the Minister added.
The Eurogroup discussed the convergence reports of the European Commission and the European Central Bank on Bulgaria's readiness to join the eurozone. They all unanimously said that the country meets all accession requirements, Petkova added.
"Today is a very good day for our country. This is a dream of generations of Bulgarian citizens," the Minister commented.
