site.btaBulgaria's National Under-17 Volleyball Team Wins Balkan Championship
The national volleyball team of Bulgaria for boys under 17 won the title at the Balkan Championship, which took place in Tirana (Albania). In the final the Bulgarian volleyball players defeated Turkiye with 3:0 (26:24, 25:16, 25:15) and grabbed the trophy.
The bronze medals went to the team of Serbia, which beat Romania 3:2 games in the dispute for the third place. The fifth position went to the team of the Republic of North Macedonia, which beat Albania 3:1.
The Bulgarian team, led by coach Desislava Velichkova, dominated almost the entire match against Turkiye. Only at the beginning of the match the Turkish volleyball players managed to make it difficult for the national team, who conceded a 24:24 equaliser, but still led by 1:0 game. In the next two parts the Bulgarians outclassed the opponent.
Jasmine Velichkov was the top scorer for Bulgaria with 15 points. Petyo Ivanov contributed 13 points to the victory, while Nikolay Nikolaev and Konstantin Manolev added 11 points each.
Bulgarian volleyball players also won several individual awards at the Balkan Championship. Petyo Ivanov was voted the most valuable player of the championship, Jasmine Velichkov the best diagonal player and Dimitar Dobrev the best libero.
