Aviation spotters and aviation enthusiasts welcomed a Boeing 787, known as the "Dreamliner," at Vasil Levski Airport in Sofia. The aircraft belongs to Qatar Airways and on Thursday completed a flight from Doha to the Bulgarian capital.
The aircraft has drawn interest among aviation fans, and Thursday’s reception was a gesture by the capital’s airport toward the spotting community.
“The feeling is amazing. We thank the airport for allowing us to see it up close. The experience is very different from watching it from a distance. The thrill is intense because you can really take in the size of this large machine, it stands out much more than the others,” aviation photographer Deyan Kolev told BTA.
Speaking about spotting as a hobby, he said that beyond being a way to spend time outdoors with friends, it also involves a big dose of adrenaline. “The roar of the engines, the smell of kerosene and rubber after the plane lands, all of it gives me a rush,” he said.
Qatar Airways announced that there will be additional flights using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner between Doha and Sofia on August 16. This aircraft boasts 22 business class seats and 232 economy class seats.
