Deadly Car Explosion in Odesa Investigated as Terrorist Act

A car exploded in the Kyivskyi district of Odesa on Tuesday morning, and regional security services have classified the incident as a terrorist act, they said on Facebook.

A criminal case has been opened, and a pre-trial investigation is underway under Article 258 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which covers acts of terrorism, the statement said.

Preliminary findings indicate the explosion occurred around 5:00 a.m. near a residential building. The driver of the vehicle was killed in the blast. Ukraine’s Security Service, together with the National Police, is carrying out a series of investigative and operational measures to establish all circumstances surrounding the incident and to identify those involved.

According to the Odesa-based news site dumskaya.net, the victim was a 21-year-old serviceman and a remotely detonated explosive device was used in the attack.
