Agricultural producers from three regions Monday protested against the duty-free import of Ukrainian grain in Bulgaria. They used a line of over 50 tractors and combine harvesters to block the traffic along the Ruse-Pleven road between the villages of Gorna Stoudena and Ovcha Mogila for a short while at noon.

The grain producers from the regions of Veliko Tarnovo, Pleven, and Ruse also demanded that the adoption of the CAP Strategic Plan of Bulgaria be postponed, because they believe it is against the interest of Bulgarian agricultural producers.

According to the protesters, the duty-free import of Ukrainian grain, sunflower seeds and other cultures is undercutting the prices on the market, which is a factor for the critical situation in Bulgarian agriculture.

The agricultural producers adopted a protest note listing their demands to the caretaker Minister of Agriculture and to the Government. They expressed readiness to protest indefinitely, unless their demands are heard.
