Bulgaria is working to increase the survivor’s pension supplement from 30% to 35%, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said in a statement marking the International Day of Older Persons, published on the Government's Facebook page. He recalled that all pensions have recently been raised by 8.6%.

Zhelyazkov stressed the Government’s efforts to combat illegal nursing homes and invest in modern care. A total of 254 new social and health-social services are being created, and all state-funded homes for the elderly are being renovated, with conditions to be fully updated within a year, he recalled.

“Today we pay tribute to the people whose work and wisdom built Bulgaria as we know it,” the Prime Minister said, adding that it is the nation’s duty to ensure dignified incomes, quality care and respect for the elderly, while also passing on this example to younger generations.
