Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov met with the leadership of the Association of Bulgarian Veteran Peacekeepers (ABVP), the Government’s press service reported on Friday.

During the meeting, the Association called for amendments to the War Veterans of the Republic of Bulgaria Act that would grant veteran status to participants in UN peacekeeping missions. Deputy Prime Minister Zafirov expressed his support for the proposed legislative change, guided by the constitutionally enshrined power of the State to provide special protection to citizens who have contributed to national security, the country’s international standing, and world peace.

Stefan Davidov and Plamen Genov of the ABVP thanked Deputy Prime Minister Zafirov for his support and stated that they would seek similar backing from representatives of all political forces in Parliament.
