site.btaAnel Art Gallery in Sofia to Host Exhibition of Paintings by Panayot Panayotov

A retrospective exhibition entitled "The Spirit of an Era in the Paintings of Prof. Panayot Panayotov (1909-1986)" will be unveiled at Anel Art Gallery here on September 2, the organizers said. Curator of the event is Plamena Dimitrova-Racheva.

Panayotov is one of the most prominent representatives of 20th-century Bulgarian painting, a long-time lecturer and rector of the National Academy of Arts. The exhibition includes portraits, landscapes, and still lifes from different periods of his career.

Among the canvases that stand out are Self-Portrait in the Studio and On the Road Before the Storm. Dimitrova-Racheva said that the rich texture and colour palette transform the paintings into the pulse of life, as they are sincere, vital and immediate.
