Outgoing PM Pays Tribute to Football Legend Dimitar Penev

Bulgaria has lost one of its most iconic and beloved figures in sport, outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov said following the death of Dimitar Penev. His condolence message was published on the Facebook page of the Council of Ministers.

Zhelyazkov noted that the name of the legendary Bulgarian football figure is forever inscribed on the most glorious page of the country’s football history, as the coach who led the Bulgarian national team to a historic fourth-place finish at the 1994 FIFA World Cup.

The outgoing PM stressed that through his professionalism, dedication and humanity, Dimitar Penev remains a lasting example and source of inspiration for future generations.

Zhelyazkov extended his deepest condolences to Penev’s family and loved ones, concluding with a tribute to the football legend’s bright memory.
