A screening of the Bulgarian film Before I Forget will take place on Saturday, January 31, in Poznan, Poland, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BCI) in Warsaw announced on its Facebook page.
The film will be shown as part of the initiative Second Review of Bulgarian Cinema, held between January 28 and February 1.
According to the Before I Forget team, the film portrays the harsh reality of one of the most widespread illnesses – dementia. The screenplay, written by Teodora Stoilova-Doncheva, is based on real events, and the film is directed by her husband, Stanislav Donchev. Before I Forget delivers an emotional message to viewers that is unlikely to leave anyone indifferent, the artistic team added. The story follows Stoyan (played by Ivan Savov), who suffers from progressive dementia, and his daughter Iliana (Aleksandra Dimitrova), who is determined to organise one last journey for her father. During the trip, he reunites with his sister and other relatives, while her son Vesko has the chance to create precious memories with his grandfather, who will soon no longer recognise them.
The other four Bulgarian films that will be shown for the first time on the Polish big screen are Gundi – Legend of Love, Triumph, The Cruel Way, and Wingless.
“The leading theme is mastery – sporting, life, spiritual and moral. These are stories about crossing boundaries, confronting personal weaknesses, success and its price – all inspired by real events,” the BCI explained.
The screenings of Bulgarian films in Poland are co-financed by the Polish Film Institute (PISF).
The organisers of the screenings are the Institute of Slavic Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, the Institute of Film, Media and Audiovisual Arts at the University of Poznan, and the National Film Center in Sofia.
Partners include Centrum Kultury Zamek, Kino Palacowe w Poznaniu, Osrodek im. McLuhana, and Laboratorium Eksperymentalnych Mediow im. S. Lema.
The Second Review of Bulgarian Cinema is held under the patronage of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Warsaw.
