Marieta Riedl from the city of Linz, Austria is one of 20 women nominated for the Saint Zlata of Meglen Award in 2025, the Executive Agency for Bulgarians Abroad (EABA) said.
“For more than 20 years, Riedl has been working dedicatedly for the Bulgarian community in Austria and preserving the national identity abroad. She is the founder of the Orpheus Bulgarian Sunday School,” the EABA noted, adding that Riedl’s nomination is supported by the Sunday school and the Orpheus Bulgarian-Austrian Parents’ Association.
Riedl is an organizer of dozens of cultural and public events in Austria, with Bulgarian mother tongue teaching being introduced in Austrian schools in Linz on her initiative. “She works actively in the public and political life of Austria as an expert in education and integration committees. She is a referent for Upper Austria, and since 2022 has headed the Economic Department for Water Resources in the regional government,” the EABA emphasized.
In October, the EABA will present its annual Bulgarian Woman of the Year – Saint Zlata of Meglen Award. Twenty nominations have been received from 11 countries. BTA will present the nominees in a series of articles.
