The Bulgarian film Gundi – Legend of Love will be screened in Poznan, Poland, the Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BCI) in Warsaw said on Friday.
The January 30, 2026 showing is part of the Second Look at Bulgarian Cinema initiative, running from January 28 to February 1.
Gundi – Legend of Love is a feature film dedicated to the life and love story of Bulgarian football hero Georgi "Gundi" Asparuhov. The film follows his personal and sporting journey, focusing on his bond with his wife, Lita, and their love as it is tested by life, football and the social system. The story tracks Gundi from his first meeting with Lita to the tragic day of June 30, 1971. The film’s synopsis says it reveals previously untold moments from their private life that show the true value of love and family ties.
The other four Bulgarian films (three feature films and one documentary) being shown on the Polish big screen for the first time are Triumf, Zhestokiyat pat, Predi da zabravya and Bez krila.
The central theme is mastery—in sport, in life, and in spiritual and moral dimensions. These are stories of pushing limits, confronting one’s weaknesses, and achieving success while paying its price—all inspired by real events, BCI said.
The screenings of Bulgarian films in Poland are co-financed with funds from the Polish Film Institute (PISF) and organized by the Institute of Slavic Philology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, the Institute of Film, Media and Audiovisual Arts at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, and the Bulgarian National Film Center. Partners include ZAMEK Culture Centre, Palacowe Cinema in Poznan, The McLuhan Communication Study Centre, and Stanislaw Lem Experimental Media Laboratory.
The Second Look at Bulgarian Cinema is held under the patronage of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute (BCI) in Warsaw.
