Bulgaria's Vladimir Iliev will record his fifth Olympic appearance in Sunday’s 4×6 km mixed biathlon relay at the Winter Games in Milan-Cortina.
He is listed in Bulgaria’s quartet alongside Blagoy Todev, Lora Hristova and his wife Milena Todorova for the Bulgarian biathletes’ first race on the Antholz-Anterselva course, which starts at 15:05 hrs Bulgarian time on Sunday with 21 teams taking part.
The 38-year-old Iliev, who will compete in the second leg, will thus equal the Bulgarian record set by short track speed skating legend Evgenia Radanova with five Winter Olympic appearances.
The experienced biathlete was the flag-bearer for the Bulgarian delegation at the Games’ opening ceremony in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Friday.
The fourth and final leg of the team will be anchored by the women’s squad leader Milena Todorova, who finished 17th in the sprint at Beijing 2022. The Bulgarian Olympic staff are relying on their top athletes with hopes and expectations of a strong performance from the quartet.
