site.btaOmbudsman Delcheva to Hold Public Hearing for Deputy Ombudsman Candidates
By the deadline of August 6, 2025, three nominations were received at the institution’s registry: Maria Filipova, nominated by the Active Consumers Association; Marina Kisyova de Geus, nominated by the Ekaterina Karavelova Foundation; and Denitsa Dimitrova, nominated by the National Network for Children.
On July 25, 2025, the National Assembly adopted procedural rules for nominating and electing a deputy ombudsman, under which Ombudsman Velislava Delcheva is required to submit her proposed candidate to Parliament.
BTA notes that Velislava Delcheva was elected ombudsman by Parliament on July 18, 2025. The ombudsman and deputy ombudsman are among the office holders eligible to be appointed as a caretaker prime minister.
In September, the ombudsman is expected to present the approved candidate to the relevant committee on direct participation of citizens, petitions and engagement with civil society, after which the candidate will be put to a vote in the plenary chamber.
