Danish Ambassador to Bulgaria Flemming Stender donated the Anthology of Danish Poetry to the Regional Library in Yambol on Wednesday.

He was welcomed by the Yambol Deputy Mayor Encho Keryazov, who emphasized that culture, and in particular literature, are among the most direct bridges for strengthening ties between peoples. Stender noted that there are many similarities between the Bulgarian and Danish people, including the love for the mother tongue, for national heroes and for nature.

The Anthology of Danish Poetry includes some of the most famous authors and poems from the 17th century to the present day and was published by the Danish Embassy in cooperation with Sofia University, on the occasion of the Danish presidency of the Council of the European Union. Stender pointed out that editions will be donated to several libraries in Bulgaria.

On the occasion of his visit, a poetic recital of works by some of the most famous Danish writers, including Hans Christian Andersen, was held at the library, performed by actress Daniela Raichevska from the Nevena Kokanova Drama Theatre in Yambol.

Stender also expressed his satisfaction that the bas-relief of Hans Christian Andersen, unveiled on Tuesday in the Alley of Nations in Sveti Vlas, was the work of Yambol sculptor Petko Yordanov, Director of the Georges Papazov Art Gallery in Yambol.
