Parliament Leader Talks with Bulgaria's New European Commissioner

National Assembly Chair Rosen Zhelyazkov talked with European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova, who joined the European Commission as the representative of Bulgaria on September 19, the legislature said in a press release on Friday.

Zhelyazkov congratulated Ivanova on assuming office and stressed that innovation and research are vigorously developing sectors which Bulgaria has set as its priorities. He said: "Our future is closely connected to digitization. Bulgaria has potential and competent young people who can implement it and apply it in our economy."

He updated the Commissioner on the National Assembly's progress with legislative initiatives related to the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. He assured her that this kind of legislation is of priority importance in the work of the current Bulgarian legislature.

The two discussed the shared commitment of Bulgaria and the European Commission to a successful accession of the country to the Schengen border-free area.

Ivanova attended the opening of a National Information Day on the EU's Horizon Europe framework programme for research and innovation.
