The District Court in Stara Zagora took a permanent remand measure of "detention in custody" on Monday against the accused in the attack on the girl from Stara Zagora over a threat to kill her. Prosecutors had filed a request with the court for permanent detention of the accused, the state prosecution service said earlier Monday, against G. G., aged 26, who is charged with threatening to kill 18-year-old D. M. after he sent two threatening text messages, which could be considered genuine, the prosecution service reported.

The defendant's lawyers, Valentin Dimitrov and Petko Kanev, have asked the judge in the case, Todor Minov, to recuse himself, Kanev told reporters. The reason he pointed out is that Minov was reviewing the first remand measure of the defendant. Kanev also stated that the defence will appeal against the last remand measure.

The assault on the 18-year-old girl took place at the end of June, but the case gained widespread publicity only a few days ago. The 26-year-old G. G. is charged with two counts of inflicting medium bodily injury and threatening to kill. More evidence is being gathered in the case and more medical examinations are to be carried out. This is the third instance of similar misconduct alleged against G. G. On Monday, protests are being organized across the country in support of the injured girl and against violence against women.
