The Wildlife Rescue Centre of Green Balkans will return rehabilitated animals to their natural habitats during August and September, Dr. Adriana Dzhamalova from the centre told BTA on Monday.

The first release took place on Monday, when seven kestrels were released near the Defenders of Stara Zagora Memorial Complex. On Tuesday, five small hedgehogs and three forest voles will be released near Trakia University.

On Wednesday, white storks will undergo final checks before being released. “I expect about 25 white storks to be returned to nature,” Dzhamalova said. Following them, five kestrels, two common buzzards, one long-tailed buzzard, and one Eurasian goshawk will also be set free.

The last planned release will take place on September 5 at Lake Zagorka in Stara Zagora, which will become the new home for 15 mallard ducks hatched at the Rescue Centre.

“Many of the animals we will release came to us as babies, having fallen from nests or been separated from their mothers. All were raised by our team with professionalism and great care,” Dzhamalova explained.
