A protest under the slogan “Resignation! Peevski and Borissov Out of Power” is set to take place in Sofia on December 10, starting at 6 p.m. at Independence Square (ed. the square known as the Power Triangle, where the new National Assembly building is flanked by the Presidency and the Council of Ministers), the organizers from the Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria (CC-DB) coalition said on Facebook. The event has been registered with the Sofia Municipality, and protests are also expected in other major cities across the country.

According to the organizers, public discontent is being framed as the strongest tool against what they describe as entrenched corruption, and they are calling for larger public participation than at previous rallies.

Sofia police have announced extensive security measures. Ivan Georgiev, Head of the Mass Events unit at the Sofia Directorate of Interior, said 19 access control points will be set up in the city. Around 150 stewards provided by the organizers will be on site. Police will also deploy a powerful mobile public address system to issue instructions to participants and to help remove potential provocateurs.

The protest in Sofia will also be joined by the Students Against the Mafia group, which will stage a separate student action involving participants from universities across the country. After a symbolic gathering, the students will march to Independence Square to join the main civil protest.

The announcement follows a protest on December 1, when crowds of tens of thousands filled the Power Triangle. Large-scale demonstrations were held in the capital and most regional centres against the draft 2026 State Budget Act. The rallies were organized by CC–DB following GERB-UDF Floor Leader and GERB Chair Boyko Borissov’s refusal to withdraw the already tabled budget bill. Clashes and disorder also occurred in Sofia late that evening.

Following the December 1 large-scale protests, the 2026 draft budget was withdrawn and CC-DB subsequently submitted a motion of no confidence against the government.
