site.btaRecordings for Valdobrev's The Acoustics of Bulgaria Continue at Roman Thermae in Varna

The Roman Thermae in Varna were featured in the new project by Bulgarian performer Stefan Valdobrev and his band The Usual Suspects. A section of the song "Privet" (Hello) was recorded in an underground gallery at the thermae as part of Valdobrev's project entitled The Acoustics of Bulgaria.

Privet, which will be the first track on an upcoming album, will have more sections recorded in other places across the country that are connected to the singer's personal and creative biography. They places will be mostly in the open, since the song is very lively.

Valdobrev shared with BTA that recording in Varna feels like going back to his childhood years, since he has many relatives in the city and used to spend his summers with them.

Recordings for The Acoustics of Bulgaria began in Provadia-Solnitsata on Friday.

The Roman Thermae in Varna are the largest ancient public building on the Balkan Peninsula and the fourth largest in the European province of the Roman Empire, Asya Stefanova, chief curator of the site, told BTA. They were built at the end of the 2nd and beginning of the 3rd century on an area of just over 7,000 square metres.

They were actively used for about a century until the end of the 3rd century. With the decline of the Roman Empire, maintenance of the site became difficult. Smaller thermae were built nearby.

The recordings continue at Balchik Palace and the Sufi lodge in Obrochishte. BTA is the main media partner of the project.
