In a Facebook post on Friday, President Rumen Radev's Secretary for Legal Affairs, Krum Zarkov, said that he will submit a request on Monday to be relieved of his duties.
Speaking to the Bulgarian News Agency, Zarkov said that his decision was prompted by Radev's plan to propose a referendum on what he called "a constitutionally inadmissible matter", adding that he "cannot agree" with the proposal or continue assisting the President on the issue.
In an address to the nation and Parliament, President Radev said he plans to submit a proposal to Parliament for a referendum on the adoption of the euro. The proposed question for the vote is: "Do you agree for Bulgaria to adopt the single European currency euro in 2026?".
