The 110th anniversary of the death of Major General Konstantin Kavarnaliev who died during the Second Balkan War was marked on Saturday at the monument of the Bulgarian officer near Doiran.

Those who paid tribute to Kavarnaliev, included Chief of Staff of the Land Forces Brigadier General Plamen Yordanov, Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Dimitar Iliev, defence Ministry Finanace Directorate head Todor Gelev, Vasil Levski National Military University deputy head Colonel Georgi Krainov, Leutenant Victor Stoyanov, Vasil Levski National Military University sergeants, Ambassador of Bulgaria in the Republic of North Macedonia Angel Angelov, the Consul General in Bitola Nikolay Dimitrov, representatives of our diplomatic mission in the country, the national initiative committee to mark the anniversary of the Balkan Wars, the Tradition society of the Bulgarian community in the Republic of North Macedonia.

Brigadier General Plamen Yordanov spoke of of Kavarnaliev's last battle, when his warriors were outnumbered 1 to 14, and he launched a counterattack. At the cost of many casualties, the position was held, but Kavarnaliev was wounded and died a few hours later.

He was buried in a modest, hastily prepared grave, among his soldiers on one of the hills between Doiran and Valandovo. In 1916, the command of the Ninth Infantry Pleven Division decided to erect a monument to Kavarnaliev.
