The new French Ambassador to Bulgaria, Marie Dumoulin, First Counsellor Anne-Charlotte Montin and Science Cooperation Attache Arnaud Bobereau visited the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute (BAI) at Sofia University on Thursday for a meeting with BAI Chairman and head of the national Antarctic expeditions Prof. Christo Pimpirev, Deputy Director Dragomir Mateev and Dr Rositsa Yaneva, Coordinator of the Polar Programme, BAI said.

The talks reviewed prospects for closer cooperation between the polar institutions and researchers of the two countries in Arctic and Antarctic studies. The Bulgarian side underscored the importance of French support, given France’s extensive expertise in marine and ocean research, for advancing Bulgaria’s oceanographic work beyond the Black Sea. The possibility of holding a seminar in 2026 with the participation of the international organization Mercator Ocean and Bulgarian marine researchers was also discussed, the Institute said.
