The Municipal Election Commission (MEC) in Varna will convene on Sunday, November 23, to review three complaints filed against Mayor Blagomir Kotsev, the MEC said on Saturday. The most recent complaint was submitted on November 21.

In a message to Varna media, the MEC clarified that the notice of the meeting has been published on the Commission’s website. The session is scheduled fully in line with the deadlines set in the Election Code, which is why it will be held on Sunday, the Commission noted.

All MEC members have been duly invited. Kotsev’s lawyer has also been notified, and the Commission has received a signed acknowledgement from the mayor confirming that he is familiar with the full documentation related to the MEC’s review, the statement added.

The Commission stressed that its work has no connection to the criminal proceedings against Kotsev or to the court hearing on his remand measure scheduled for November 27. The MEC explained that its procedure examines a different set of issues and is conducted regardless of whether the person concerned is in custody or at liberty.
